Facebook has recently made changes to their Business Pages and I want to give you a quick summary of the Facebook changes that will most impact you, so you can make sure your Facebook Business Page is set the way you want it to be.
#1 – Photo strip. There is now a photo strip at the top of the Wall with your most recent photos. These may be photos you’ve added or photos someone has tagged you in. If you don’t want a photo to be visible you can “hide” it.
#2 – Tabs. Tabs are no longer at the top of your page, but moved to the left hand side under your photo. Only 6 tabs visible “above the fold”.
#3 – Profile pictures. Profile pictures have been reduced in size to 180 x 540. If you image looks blurry you made need to resize it to the new dimensions.
#4 – Interaction. You can now interact on Facebook as your Page. Use to be if you commented on another page it would only post your personal image next to the comment. Now you can comment as your business.
#5 – Like Pages. Pages can Like other Pages, not just favorite them.
#6 – News feed. Added news feed of updates from Like Pages.
#7 – Email notifications. Received email notifications when users post or comment on your page.
#8 – Wall posts. Ability to indicate if wall posts are for “Everyone” or just your page.
#9 – iframes. Now feature iframes apps on pages.
Add the FBML App Now
There is some concern that the FBML application will be removed. This is what I frequently use to create custom Welcome Tabs. Here’s an example – http://www.facebook.com/pages/Triangle-Nutrition-Therapy/192182250961?sk=app_4949752878. Pay attention to what happens when you click the “Like” button.
I’m not sure what app they are developing to replace the FBML application. If you do not currently have a Facebook Business Page I encourage you to quickly add one and the FMBL app so it’s there when you are ready to develop your page. The application will remain active on “current” Facebook Fan Pages, but will not be available for new pages. I believe it’s being removed as an option March 11th.
Find Your Business Page
One last tip. They changed the wording for how to locate your business page. When you click on “Account” in the top right hand corner, instead of selecting “Manage Pages” you choose “Use Facebook as Page”.
All the best,
