Are you utilizing your email signature to grow your business?

By Lisa Nelson  |  Email Marketing

You want to keep your email signature short and to the point, but you also want it to provide clear information on how to contact you and entice people to learn more about you.

Here are 7 items you may want to include in your email signature:

  1. Your Name
  2. Business Name – Don’t forget to identify yourself and your business. . .maybe your business tagline would be appropriate.
  3. Telephone Number – Pick your top preference for people to contact you, not all ways possible.
  4. Email address (as an active hyperlink)
  5. Website (as an active hyperlink)
  6. Invitation to connect on social media – Stick with your top preferences, such as links to your Facebook and/or Twitter profiles.
  7. Free Offer – Instead of just listing your website you may want to have a short sentence or question enticing them to check out your free offer where they then enter their name/email to gain further access.

If you belong to a discussion list, be sure to check their rules in regards to email signatures. You may need to eliminate pieces to abide by their guidelines. Also, don’t let your email signature become overwhelming. If a piece is not essential to your goals, leave it out!

Here are 3 tips for an effective email signature:

  1. Stick to plain text. . .skip graphics and flashing colors.
  2. Provide written out URLs instead of using hyperlinks to ensure it’s received correctly in the messages you send.
  3. Leave out your mailing address. . .most people don’t need this and if they do, it can typically be found on your website or they can contact you via email or phone.

All the best,

Good tips. One important thing I have found is to use a spam checker to make sure your signature will get through spam filters. Leave off any words such as Free that get dinged big time.

I also leave off the email address unless it is in a forum (not actual email) because they have it right there anyway.

And keep it short. If your email signature is longer than your email message, people don’t respond well.
