Are you asking your readers to tell you what they want? – Kissinsights

By Lisa Nelson  |  Website

Do you ask your blog readers to submit questions or topics they are interested in learning more about?

If not, Kissinsights is a simple and free tool that invites your blog readers to submit questions or comments. Plus, it doesn’t take much in the way of tech skills to set up.

First, what is KissInsights?

After you are on a webpage 10 seconds a little gray box pops up on the bottom right hand side of your screen. The message is simple “What should we write about next? We’d love to hear your suggestions for blog post topics.”

If you’d like this feature on your blog, go to Kissinsights.com and create an account. Next, create your first survey. Select from the survey options provided. Enter the url of the page you want the survey to appear. Select the survey style you want and the email address where you want to receive notifications of responses. If you want more customized features you can upgrade to the paid version of KissInsights. When you click ‘Finish’ you’ll receive a short piece of script code that you copy and paste right after the
< body > tag on the page(s) you want the survey question to appear.

That’s it!

So, if there is something you’d like me to write about, ask away in that little KissInsight box you see appear:)

All the best,
Lisa Nelson

Thanks for sharing this resource, Lisa. We often think we know what our market/readers want to know about, but that’s not always the case. I’ll do some research on this tool as the more popular one seems to be Survey Monkey and it’s always great to have an alternative.

Hi Lisa. Thanks for sharing this. I just signed up with them, but I’m a little confused. My second step (after entering my website, email address and password) was to copy the code for the survey. I never got to ask my question or choose any of the options you listed here. What did I do wrong? Also, in order to get the survey to only show on your home page, where exactly did you put the code? I’m a little techy challeneged when it comes to knowing exactly where to put codes like this. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Alexis,

I can’t retrace the steps you took since I already have an account set up, but when you login to your account there should be a green button in the upper right hand corner that says ‘Create New Survey’. You then select from the survey options available on the page that comes up. After you select the survey you’ll enter some information about where the survey should appear on your site, etc. After the survey set up is complete you receive the code. Copy the code and paste it after the < body > tag. If you have a WordPress website this is likely within your header.php file.

    Hope this helps!

Ok, thanks. Did you pay for your account to get the question you are asking in your survey? I didn’t see that as an option but I like it.

Hi Lisa, could you tell me how much success you’ve had with your survey question on your homepage? I have been dealing with customer service at Kissinsights because I wanted to choose the same question you had but they didn’t offer it as a selection. I just found out that they removed it due to customer feedback saying that it didn’t get any responses. But they are willing to put it back if I want to try it out. So I wanted to check with you to find out if you are having much success with getting responses to it and if it’s really helping you to come up with more topics for your blog. Thanks for your help.

    Alexis,

That’s interesting. I had to open my blog to make sure my pop up was still there:) I’d rank my results as fair. Nothing great, but I do get some input. They must have just removed this question in the past week or so, because I know last time I replied to you the question still appeared on my site and I don’t see it today. I’m not opposed to trying one of their other questions to see if people engage more with one over the other. Always a matter of trial and error! I’m going to go see what my other options are now. . .

Hi Lisa, I did see your popup survey earlier today (I checked for it too), it’s just that it didn’t pop up, you had to click on the plus sign (+) to get it to rise up and then you were able to answer the question. That was the only difference I noticed to how it was before. Thanks for your input on how the survey worked for you. I really like the idea of being able to ask my readers what topics they would like to hear, so I will respond back to the customer service agent and let them know that I would like to try it and see how it goes. I believe they will make it available to be used then. Thanks again for all your help.
