Do you ever wonder how people get their image to appear when they make a comment on someone else’s blog instead of the “mystery gray man”?
It’s really quite simple, although I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone explain how. Those images are called “Avatars” and you can set up a “Globally Recognized Avatar” at http://gravatar.com.
It’s a free service. Just go the site, click “Get Your Gravatar today”. You’ll enter your email address. Confirm your email address. Then upload the image you want to appear when you use that email address.
Different Image for Different Email Addresses
What I really like is the ability to use a different image for different email addresses. In my situation I operate two businesses – Health Practices Online (which is where I provide services for you!) and Heart Health Made Easy (where I provide heart health nutrition services). I actually use different headshots for each business. With gravatar.com I am able to designate a specific headshot depending on the email address I use.
Once your gravatar is set up, whenever you post a blog comment on someone else’s blog your image will appear next to the post. . .as long as you use the email address registered with gravatar.com. FYI – I have six email addresses registered!
All the best,
Lisa Nelson
